"In your moment of truth what will you choose? Will you choose the wilderness or the adventure? Have you confused the blessing of God with wealth, comfort, & security? Have you considered that God’s greatest gift to you is that He calls you to be a pioneer, explorer, & even creator? There are things God does for you & things God waits for you to do. The journey begins when you choose. Stop wasting daylight. Choose a life of meaningful adventure.”
…Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light & momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
"Jesus calls his disciples, giving us authority to heal & sending us out. He doesn’t show us how to reliably cure a molar pregnancy. He doesn’t show us how to make a blind man see, dry every tear, or even drive out all kinds of demons. But he shows us how to enter into a way of life in which the broken and sick pieces are held in love, and given meaning. In which strangers literally touch each other, and doing so make a community spacious enough for everyone. In which the deepest desires of our hearts draws us to health. Don’t be afraid, Jesus says: your faith will make you well. “
“We’ll stay hungry if we eat alone. We’ll be lonely if we think we can only share fellowship with the right people. We’ll starve if we believe that a community is a supernatural kind of miracle, or a product we can buy- not something we create by offering ourselves recklessly to others. We’ll never feel truly fed if we’re constantly competing to get our share; if we believe that love is scarce & are afraid to give it away.”
"The heaviest of burdens crushes us, we sink beneath it, it pins us to the ground. But in the love poetry of every age, the woman longs to be weighed down by a man. The heaviest of burdens is therefore simultaneously an image of life’s most intense fulfillment. The heavier the burden, the closer our lives come to the earth, the more real & truthful they become.
Conversely, the absolute absence of a burden causes man to be lighter than air, to soar into the heights, take leave of the earth & his earthly being, and become only half real, his movements as free as they are insignificant.
